A family property of 80 hectares, the Château is located 30 kilometres south-east of Bordeaux, in the heart of the vast hillside that runs along the Garonne for miles and is known as the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. We produce white wines on our fresh clay and silt soils and red wines on our clay and limestone hillsides covered with gravel in some places. We particularly like to work with Sémillon for dry and sweet whites and Merlot for red wines.
Isabelle & Michel Dietrich both come from Champagne and Alsace winegrower families. Michel studied oenology in Bordeaux and then worked for 6 years in Australia. When they returned in 1988, they dreamed of settling in and needed space. They therefore quickly chose to establish themselves in the Bordeaux region and created Château Haut-Rian by gradually buying vines.
To be a winegrower, in our eyes, means working our vines to have the best possible grapes, vinifying them ourselves and meeting our customers. It is a profession of rare richness and demand.
