The 2006 vintage was very over-particular: it required the know how of both, vine-grower and winemaker. Kirwan 2006 shows fresh red and black fruit aromas on the nose and great finesse with an almost chewy texture on the palate. The wine is lively with firm and perfectly ripe tannins with a long, elegant and fresh finish -typical of the vintage. Can be compared to 1999 for its juicy fruit and to 2002 for its vitality, this 2006 vintage is definitely a nice representation of the Margaux Appellation.

The domain's short story

Château Lamothe was built in the 16th century behind a Merovingian fortress. The vineyard is composed of Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle. The result is fragrant and complex wines. Around the third week of September, the harvest begins and the grapes are carefully sorted. The "noble rot" makes the grapes that make the Sauternes something exceptional in the mouth.

The winemaker's pride

Since 1961, our family has owned this 16th century Château and its 7.5 hectare vineyard in the heart of the village of Sauternes. On this gravel and clay soil we adopt a reasoned cultivation and a great care in the selection of botrytised grains. After more than 2 years of ageing, the wine is ample, well balanced and persistent. We are proud of our 1855 Grand Cru Classé and cultivate this excellence.
