(33) Gironde

The Château de Francs is located on a dominant hill. It is a jewel of architecture dating back to the Middle Ages. The vineyard, completely restructured, covers 37 hectares on a magnificent clay-limestone soil, very similar to that of the Saint-Emilion plateau, allowing the vine to flourish and produce high quality distinguished wines. The Francs, Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, located in the far east of the Gironde, about twenty kilometres from the village of Saint-Emilion, is one of the smallest in Bordeaux. It is composed of many small estates, covering 3 villages each surrounding their Romanesque church. Almost anonymous until the 1980s, renowned winegrowers then sniffed out the potential and embarked on the adventure.

Our story

In 1986, as co-owner of Château Cheval Blanc, I decided with my friend Hubert de Bouärd de La Forêt, co-owner of Château Angélus, to invest in the heart of this little-known appellation, but with definite potential. Thanks to a spirited team that has been very close together for almost thirty years, we produce wines that are full of finesse and elegance, renowned for their quality and regularity through vintages.

Other little stories

In 1986, Dominique Hebrard, then co-owner of Château Cheval Blanc, decided with his friend Hubert de Bouärd de La Forêt, co-owner of Château Angélus, to invest in the heart of this little-known appellation but one with clear potential. Thanks to a spirited team that has been very close together for almost thirty years, they produce wines that are full of finesse and elegance, renowned for their quality and regularity through vintages.

Being a winegrower is a passion that we live every day, year after year, and which pushes us to get the best out of the vine and the soil on which it flourishes. The major asset of our estate is its exceptional terroir, which is similar to that of the great wines of the Saint-Emilion plateau. The restored vineyard and the desire to always do better have led the estate today to produce wines of great quality, and to design a very promising future for these wines.
