Château du Cléray

Our estate is located in Vallet between Nantes and Cholet. We work a vineyard of 95 hectares planted with 70% of Melon de Bourgogne, otherwise known as Muscadet. We produce our wines under the Muscadet Sèvre and Maine protected designation of origin.

We work according to the methods of sustainable agriculture on a siliceous clay soil, typical of the Nantes vineyard. The vine gives us dry, lively white wines with salty notes. From generation to generation, the vine is put at the heart of the winegrower's work by providing him with the most natural possible care and by controlling his yield to obtain wines that express as accurately as possible the terroir on which the vineyard is located.

Our story

The Sauvion family has been at the head of Château du Cléray since the middle of the 20th century. From father to son, the family works together and like to define themselves not only as simple winegrowers but also as "makers of pleasure".

Vintage after vintage, winemaking techniques and vine work evolve strongly, as does the vineyard. In 1935, only 30 hectares of vines were worked. About ten years later, the family bought back the Domaine du Cléray vineyard to create the vineyard as we know it today.

Pierre-Jean, son of Yves Sauvion, is now taking over the estate as an experienced oenologist. It produces complex wines that it markets in more than 80 countries around the world. The family particularly likes to travel around France to present their latest vintages to Loire wine lovers.
