Which Wine for Valentine's Day?
The debate over the origins of Valentine’s Day is still raging. Did it originate in Rome or Britain? Is it Christian or pagan? Does it trace back to the Lupercalia (a fertility festival in Ancient Rome) or to the day birds choose to mate?
I’ll admit it, Valentine’s Day does feel a bit overrated. But it’s up to us to change that, isn’t it? So let’s avoid those overpriced restaurants where most couples just stare at each other blankly. Let’s take this opportunity to spend time with someone we love over a nice candlelit meal or a marathon of romantic movies. Let’s pop open a bottle to celebrate…
My wine recommendations for Valentine's Day:
For a romantic dinner, pull out all the stops with “UN BAISER” from Clos des vins d’Amour.
Century-old Grenache Noir vines, deeply rooted in the Maury terroir, ensuring the vineyard’s long-term sustainability. A fine dining red wine with a spicy nose featuring peppery notes and a dense, velvety palate.
To sweep them off their feet, serve “Le Violon Rouge” from Domaine de Crémone. A blend of iconic Côtes-du-Rhône grape varieties, offering the complexity to make a lasting impression! It boasts a fabulous nose of violets and a full-bodied, rich palate with silky tannins.
For a night out with friends, we open a bottle of Fleury champagne. A brut rosé made using the saignée method, bursting with red berries. A refined cuvée, perfectly full-bodied!
Wines to avoid with your Valentine:
Let’s avoid Valentine’s Day “faux pas”—like the favorite wine of the “ex” who broke our heart, or our mother-in-law’s favorite wine!
All that's left is to find a Valentine!
