Our Review of the Cuvée

The deep ruby hue, with garnet reflections, elegantly captures the light. The nose slowly unfolds, revealing a generous spectrum of ripe red and black fruits – cherry, redcurrant, a hint of blackberry – intertwined with delicate spicy notes and a subtly integrated woody touch. On the palate, the wine asserts its character with restraint: the texture is ample yet precise, supported by fine, velvety tannins that structure the whole without ever weighing it down. The inherent freshness of the cru provides balance and length, extending the tasting experience into a harmonious and persistent finish. A Mercurey monopole, both distinguished and inviting, accurately conveying the depth and nobility of its Clos.

Les Héritiers Saint-Genys embodies the unique journey of Patrice du Jeu, a former restaurateur who became a winemaker out of passion and conviction. In 2010, he took over a 12-hectare estate, abandoned between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, which he entirely restructured with rigor and humility. The estate cultivates highly diverse plots, from Chassagne-Montrachet to Santenay, extending to the Côte Chalonnaise, with a notable exception: the Mercurey Premier Cru Clos Marcilly, a monopole. Each wine expresses its specific terroir (climat), from the convivial Bourgogne Aligoté to the more distinct Premier Crus. The cuvées, acclaimed by several guides, reflect identical rigor for each appellation. Being a winemaker in Chassagne-Montrachet remains an honor for Patrice, one he strives to earn every day.
