Voluptas 2023

Côtes du Roussillon Villages | Rouge | 2023

This wine is produced from a unique terroir composed of granite-rich sandy soils at an altitude of 450 meters in Lesquèrde, and is an elegant blend of Syrah, Carignan Noir, and Grenache Noir. Hand-harvested grapes, followed by traditional vinification in tanks and demi-muids, allow the berries’ pure character to shine through. With a three-week maceration and constant stirring of the lees, this wine offers a rich texture and masterful balance, refined by 12 months of aging on fine lees.

Our Review of the Cuvée

Behind an initial floral aroma, this wine reveals subtle spicy notes and hints of black fruit. The Syrah brings a lovely aromatic intensity, while the Carignan and Grenache enrich the bouquet with nuances of plum and cherry. On the palate, the texture is velvety, supported by a solid structure and silky tannins. The extended maceration results in a persistent aromatic profile, while aging on fine lees adds depth and complexity that invite further tasting.

Domaine Semper

Roussillon | France

At the foot of the Agly's schist hills, Domaine Semper crafts wines where Carignan and Grenache find a robust terroir for expression. The Roussillon's warmth translates into dark and ripe fruit, but the freshness of high-altitude soils provides a beneficial counterpoint. Gentle vinification methods prioritize precision over power, yielding juices with fine tannins and a fleshy texture. Aging, with limited use of wood, preserves a clean aromatic profile and appropriate volume. The style remains frank and direct, with a contained depth that characterizes this southern region where old vines retain an essential role.
