Anecdotes from the Estate: Our champagnes age in magnificent cellars spread over three levels, each with a different architectural style (Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance). They are probably the deepest in Champagne, as one must descend 122 steps to reach the lowest level. This unique structure provides our bottles with ideal temperature and humidity conditions for optimal aging of our wines. They house poignant traces of the past: engravings, drawings, and soot marks left by the candles of refugees during the two World Wars. A Brief History of the Estate: Champagne Cattier has been a family-owned and independent house for thirteen generations. It is one of only ten Champagne houses still run by the same family. The history of Maison Cattier dates back to 1650, when, in the village of Chigny-Les-Roses, the Cattier ancestors cultivated vines and sold grapes to merchants in the city of Reims. It was at the end of the First World War in 1918 that Jean Cattier decided to sell his Champagne under his own name: Cattier. In 1951, Le Clos du Moulin (2.2 hectares) became the property of Maison Cattier. The luxury brand Armand de Brignac was launched in 2006. Finally, in 2011, Jean-Jacques Cattier handed over the reins as Chairman and CEO to his son, Alexandre Cattier. Accompanied by his two cousins, Agathe and Marie, he continues to develop the company using 21st-century tools while remaining true to its ancestral values. The pride of the estate: Located in Chigny-Les-Roses, the terroir of Maison Cattier lies in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. The family business cultivates 33 hectares of Premier Cru vineyards, farmed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture (HVE Level 3 certified). The Clos du Moulin plot, spanning 2.2 hectares, is owned by the House and remains one of the few historic walled vineyards in Champagne. Its unique expression can be summed up in a few words: freshness, generosity, suppleness, and fruitiness. Each cuvée is distinctive and showcases our terroir, the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier flourish. Our secret: our expertise from vine to glass, passed down through 13 generations, to craft elegant and generous Champagnes.
