Anecdotes from the Estate: What is wine, what does it mean to be a winemaker? I would say that I find my definition in these two quotes: "We do not inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children" (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) "To make a great wine, you need a madman to grow the vine, a wise man to watch over it, a lucid poet to make the wine, and a lover to drink it." (Salvador Dali) The Estate's History: The name "Chapelle Bérard" is a combination of the names of two of our wine estates: Château Bérard, the historic family estate, and Château La Chapelle Maillard, the first estate we farmed organically, starting in 2001. The Estate's Pride: Our vineyards are located on the clay-limestone slopes of the Dordogne, halfway between Saint-Émilion and Bergerac. Our wines represent a meeting of tradition and modernity, reflecting our commitment to organic farming. With the Chapelle Bérard range, we aimed to delve deeper into the pursuit of excellence, rediscovering the essence of what has made our region's wines renowned for centuries.
