Anecdotes from the Estate: An Art of Living... Distinguished at the 1900 Universal Exhibition with a Silver Medal, Château Chatain wine has retained its identity. The consistency of its wines is still recognized today, with the 2007 and 2016 vintages, released en primeur, being awarded two Silver Medals by the IWSC in 2017. The story of Château Chatain unfolds today at the heart of the estate, retracing its winemaking processes from its beginnings in viticulture and through an evolving tasting experience, from vats to bottles. Plan your visit in advance; a plate of sweets will add a convivial touch for a special moment with family or friends. A Brief History of the Estate: The lands of Château Chatain have been producing wine since 1750. It was in 1928 that General Prax de Miramon, along with his son-in-law, the Count de La Guéronnière, acquired this 6-hectare vineyard. Since then, the de La Guéronnière family has lovingly tended the estate, cultivating and caring for its vines with respect for tradition. The fourth generation of winemakers now practices classic winemaking and a long aging process of twelve months in oak barrels, perpetuating the tradition of excellence that has made Château Chatain famous. The pride of the estate: We use traditional winemaking methods (presses dating back to 1900, the quality of which has not been equaled since), and sustainable farming practices. We have 6 hectares, primarily on clay-limestone soil. Our Bordeaux Lalande de Pomerol Cuvée is composed of 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 70% Merlot. Our vineyard is mainly composed of old vines, some 50 years old. We age our wines for 18 months, including 12 months in barrels, to produce a fruity wine with natural tannins.
