Château de L'Hurbe has been a family estate since 1921. We welcome you to an 18th-century building, with a main building surrounding a shaded park, for a tour of the cellars and a tasting. You can even picnic on the grounds. Located on the hillsides overlooking the Dordogne River, the terroir benefits from a climate ideal for winemaking. Anecdotes about the estate: Château de l'Hurbe is recognized internationally thanks to Vincent's work in exporting his wines. The culmination of this work was a visit from Nelson Chow in 2017. This esteemed figure in the wine world is none other than the President of the Sommeliers of Hong Kong and China! A little history of the estate: Château de l'Hurbe has had a turbulent history. During the crisis that struck French vineyards at the beginning of the 20th century, L'Hurbe was devastated, and a cooperative winery was established on the site. The wine was previously produced at the château. In 1990, Marc Bousseau took over the estate and decided to produce his own wines. He undertook a major renovation of the buildings, including the winery, which he rebuilt entirely in stainless steel to accommodate more modern winemaking techniques such as temperature-controlled tanks. Together, Agnès and Marc restored the estate's prestige and revived its commercial activity. They expanded through direct sales to individuals and created a direct sales area at the château. Today, Vincent is learning alongside his parents with the aim of taking over operations when they retire. The pride of the estate: Our vineyard is located in Saint-Laurent-d'Arce and covers 29 hectares, 12 of which are within the Côtes de Bourg appellation. Our soils are primarily clay-limestone with a clay subsoil. Here, we cultivate the land as a family: Marc and Agnès are now assisted by their son Vincent, who will take over the estate when they retire. The vineyard's grape varieties are classic Bordeaux, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a touch of Malbec. For the white wines, we work with Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. We offer wine lovers a wide range of products made from our grapes. For alcoholic beverages, we have red, white, rosé, clairet, and also a crémant. We also offer a non-alcoholic sparkling wine and grape juice. You're sure to find something you'll love when you visit the estate!
