Château Gilbert & Gaillard
Château Gilbert & Gaillard is nestled in the heart of the garrigue, within a Natura 2000 protected area in the Saint-Chinian appellation of Languedoc-Roussillon. Anecdotes from the estate: Our passion for wine has always been with us. I come from a family of winemakers in the Loire Valley, in Touraine. François Gilbert earned his geography degree by writing a thesis detailing the different terroirs of Languedoc. We became friends while making wine in Bordeaux in 1987. Later, we founded the international tasting group Gilbert & Gaillard. It was the opportunity to acquire this exceptional hillside that prompted us to return to the land, with this irresistible desire to put our expertise into practice and showcase the full richness of our appellations. Being a winemaker means questioning ourselves, understanding, listening, and being aware that all of this doesn't truly belong to us. We are just passing through, and therefore must make our wine with respect for the environment. The story of Château Gilbert & Gaillard began with our encounter with an exceptional terroir: a limestone plateau on a hillside at 200 meters altitude, located south of the Saint-Chinian appellation. Our philosophy? To express the very essence of our terroir, from vine to consumer. Upon discovering this terroir, we understood that we had the opportunity to create a grand cru characterized by minerality, freshness, and elegance, and we are doing everything we can to produce it with respect for our environment. The pride of Château Gilbert & Gaillard, as its name suggests, belongs to the two international wine tasters. Its 15 hectares are situated in the far south of the Saint-Chinian appellation, on a limestone plateau at an altitude of 200 meters, within a Natura 2000 protected natural area. It is a family-run, artisanal estate where the vines are cultivated with respect for the environment. For your information, part of the vineyard soil is worked by horse. And if you stop by the estate, you might have the opportunity to tour the vineyard by horse-drawn carriage. All the work done here has only one goal: to showcase our terroir and share our passion for this magnificent product, so representative of our heritage: wine.
