Anecdotes from the Estate: We maintain the Bordeaux spirit in a spirit of renewal. When we arrived in the region, the Sainte-Foy Bordeaux appellation was considered marginal, far from the international renown of some prestigious appellations... even though the château is only 25 km from Saint-Émilion. Our wines were notably selected by Joël Robuchon for inclusion on the wine lists of several of his restaurants. The Estate's History: In 1986, we took the bold step of handing over the reins of the Hostens-Picant estate and reviving a terroir forgotten by the major Bordeaux appellations. It was love at first sight... The origins of this vast estate date back to 1460, seven years after the end of the Hundred Years' War. First called Château des Granges in the early 19th century, it became Château de Grangeneuve and, in 1990, Château Hostens-Picant, a name given by Yves in honor of his ancestors. Today, our youngest daughter, Valentine, is dedicated to upholding the estate's fine values and generous yet demanding approach. The pride of the estate: All the work at the estate is focused on cultivating the vineyard. It is essential to listen to it, to let it develop at its own pace, and to instill the necessary energy to reveal its full potential. The diverse exposure of the plots, where plateaus and hillsides alternate, ensures the optimal quality of the grapes. The soil is predominantly clay-limestone, allowing the Château's wines to express their power and length on the palate. The flint, for its part, provides a beautiful vibrancy and minerality, ideal for the elegance and balance of the wines. The grape varieties produced at the estate are as follows: - White grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc and Gris, Sémillon, and Muscadelle; - Red grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. All vineyard work is carried out in accordance with the principles of sustainable agriculture. This daily commitment is fully rooted in the estate's philosophy: "Quality, quality, and more quality!"
