Château Les Graves de Viaud
Anecdotes from the estate: A new winemaker with a background in IT, I naturally gravitated towards biodynamic viticulture with the aim of making honest, unadulterated wines, deeply rooted in their terroir. A little history of the estate: Our 15 hectares are located on the last slope of the Côtes de Bourg and enjoy a full southern exposure. Cultivated biodynamically (Demeter certified), our estate benefits from a diverse environment and flora. Our soils are predominantly gravelly. At the top of the slope, you'll find small, oxidized gravels, while on the lower slopes, the soils are mostly clay. Half of our vines are over 35 years old. Our estate was established in 1850 and has been published by Éditions Féret since 1875. From 1945 to 1993, the estate delivered its grapes directly to the Pugnac cooperative winery. The following year, it changed hands. The new owners invested in building a new winery, allowing them to make their own wine. From their very first harvests, they were recognized in the magazine Les Grands Vins de France and won numerous medals for the quality of their wines. In 2010, we decided to take the plunge and make a living from our passion. As great lovers of terroir-driven wines, we chose organic and biodynamic (Demeter) farming methods to fully express the essence of our terroir. The estate, founded in 1850, was taken over in 1994 by Philippe Betschart, with the ambition of producing authentic and unadulterated wines. It was with this in mind that he chose organic and biodynamic farming methods in 2010, and obtained the Demeter label. His 15 hectares are located on the last hillside of the Côtes de Bourg and benefit from a full southern exposure.
