Anecdotes from the Estate: Initially trained as an oenological engineer, wine has always been a natural fit. Upon taking the reins of the château, I wanted to contribute my own piece to the puzzle and showcase the wonderful Bandol grape variety, nestled between the sea and the mountains, which defines the estate's identity... A Brief History of the Estate: The estate's history began in 1604, with 18 generations of farmers having worked the land! It's unclear whether "Salettes" comes from the name of the salt storage area or a Gallic tribe... What is certain is that the passion for wine and the secrets of winemaking have been passed down through all these years. It is this expertise that Jean-Pierre Boyer sought to elevate when he took over the estate in 1965: he restored the abandoned terraces and planted new vines. His son, Nicolas Boyer, took over the estate in 2002 and continues the work begun by Jean-Pierre. Nicolas passed away in 2011 after a serious illness. With Jean-Pierre's support, I took over the management of the estate. Even today, some plots still need replanting. The pride of Château Salettes lies above all in its exceptional location: a microclimate ideal for viticulture, a magnificent terroir, and vines planted on terraced slopes. In 1965, Jean-Pierre Boyer decided to revive the history of a wine estate dating back to the 17th century. It's a long-term project that continues to this day and is proving highly worthwhile. The result: wines produced with time-honored expertise and the utmost respect for this precious terroir composed of clay, limestone, and crushed rock.
