Located in the heart of the volcanic terroir of the Puy de Dôme, Clos Luern is a story of passion. The passion of a wine and gastronomy enthusiast, immersed in this world from a very young age, with a family sharing the same passion. Anecdotes from the estate: What could be better than terracotta amphorae for the aging process? They impart minerality and complexity to the wine without the risk of altering its character, as oak barrels can. As you will have gathered, at Clos Luern, everything is done to create precise, pure, and authentic wines, ever closer to the terroir, while maintaining a finesse and tension that allows them to evolve over time. The estate's story: Is there such a thing as a winemaker's gene? Who knows... However, it was time to let it express itself, and above all, to let this family tradition flourish once again. It was on land formerly planted with vines that I decided to revive this crop by planting Chardonnay, which would form the basis of the estate. But waiting four years before harvesting was untenable, and that's why the vineyard expanded with old Gamay Noir and Gamay d'Auvergne vines, capable of producing grapes whose qualities I was previously unaware of. These old vines flourish on volcanic soil east of Clermont-Ferrand, yielding distinctive wines with a strong identity imparted by the land in which they grow. The pride of the estate: Located in the heart of the volcanic terroir of the Puy de Dôme, Clos Luern is a story of passion. A passion for this multifaceted terroir with its incredible potential. This small estate, spread across two hectares, strives to make the most of the living soils. One hectare is planted with century-old Gamay Noir and Gamay d'Auvergne vines, planted at a very high density on slopes sometimes exceeding 30%, while the other hectare is planted with Chardonnay from a new planting on the clay-limestone terroir of the pre-mountainous Limage region. Following the manual harvest, vinification is carried out using only the finest grapes, sorted in the vineyard and then again at the winery, employing precise winemaking techniques without the addition of any additives. This precise, additive-free vinification (temperature control and a modern winery) allows for the aging of pure wines that truly reflect their terroir. Finally, the aging process is also geared towards quality and maintaining the personality of the wines with the use of terracotta amphorae and polymer eggs ensuring micro-oxygenation and a gentle and elegant evolution of their organoleptic virtues.
