Domaine Daurion
Anecdotes from the Estate: The Daurion name has its roots in pre-Revolutionary history. At that time, records mention the Dourion barn, the meaning of which is unknown. After a transcription error, the name Daurion appeared. But vineyard work was already present, as evidenced by the semi-underground cellar whose vaults are still visible. In the 1960s, under the guidance of his grandfather, Professor Henri Collet, a complete restructuring of the vineyard was implemented with the planting of the region's first Chardonnay vines. In the cellar, the first concrete vats arrived at the estate, complementing the large oak casks; this winemaking method, innovative for the time, was not his only avant-garde innovation: he was also the first to use a harvesting machine in the Caux vineyards! Then, in the 1990s, Dr. Henri Collet Sr. continued the estate's transformation: Roussanne grapes were introduced to the vineyard, and in the cellar, the sheepfold and stable were converted into barrel cellars for oak and acacia, along with the use of a pneumatic press. The estate's history: The roots of Domaine Daurion date back to Roman times. Some of its vines are over half a century old! Bathed in sunshine and imbued with expertise, they give body and character to the finest wines of Domaine Daurion. Since 2011, Isabelle Cordoba-Collet has been at the helm. The succession is thus ensured by the third consecutive generation of winemakers. She is also the first woman to head the estate. As for the fourth generation, Isabelle has dedicated her "Domaine" cuvées to them, naming them after her daughters: Céline (Merlot), Héloïse (Chardonnay), and Flore (Cinsault-Syrah). Its motto: to promote the Languedoc terroir and raise awareness of the typical wines of the Hérault. The pride of the estate: A family estate of around sixty hectares, attached to the values of the terroir, Daurion oscillates between modernity and the tradition of its centuries-old winemaking past.
