Anecdotes from the Estate: Our harvest is entirely hand-picked, and the grapes are manually sorted upon arrival at our winery. Our vineyard is currently undergoing conversion to organic farming to obtain Terra Vitis certification. A Brief History of the Estate: Domaine Cheysson is first and foremost a beautiful family story. In 1868, Émile Cheysson, a brilliant industrialist, statesman, and sociologist, acquired the estate. Previously, this property belonged to the monks of Cluny Abbey. They cleared the hills of Chiroubles and founded a priory on the current site of the Domaine, remaining there until the French Revolution, at which point the entire estate was sold... marking the beginning of a family adventure. For over 150 years, from generation to generation, the Cheysson family has continuously modernized the vineyard and developed wine production. Building on this history and the quality of the Domaine's terroirs with their evocative names (Côtes Rôties, Grille Midi, Les Roches...), the estate boasts a precise understanding of the winemaking craft and has also invested in state-of-the-art equipment and machinery, which has allowed us to win numerous awards in competitions and renowned guides. Today, while the 17th-century cellars have been preserved and attest to the estate's long history, the property now enjoys 26 hectares of vines in the Chiroubles and Beaujolais Blanc appellations. The pride of the estate, Domaine Cheysson, ideally located in the heart of the village of Chiroubles, just steps from the distinctive Moorish-style church, flourishes in an idyllic setting with a park boasting trees over a century old. From the estate, you can enjoy a 180° view encompassing all the Beaujolais Crus and extending to the Alps, over 200 km away. On a clear day, Mont Blanc is visible to both locals and tourists. On 26 hectares of hillside vineyards, we produce Chiroubles, the highest cru in Beaujolais. Grown on granite soils, our Gamay grape variety yields a ruby-red wine, tender and very fruity with aromas of red berries. We also produce Beaujolais Blanc from the high-quality Chardonnay grape, which gives us a bright, luminous yellow wine with a fresh, fruity taste reminiscent of citrus.
