Domaine Vignau la Juscle
Anecdotes from the Estate: The Estate's History. Purchased by the Valton family in 1968, Domaine Vignau la Juscle, then completely abandoned, was gradually rebuilt over two generations. Henriette Valton, from the family of the creators of the Petit Bateau brand in Troyes, Aube (whose family had already produced Champagne), found herself, after her husband was mobilized, having to leave the occupied zone for the free zone. It was her son, Jean-Louis Valton, who developed a taste for the terroir and decided to settle in the region, but as a country doctor in the Madiran area. He bought the estate in 1968, but it was his son, Michel Valton, who rebuilt the vineyard from scratch, alongside his medical practice. Finally, it is the latest generation, represented by Antonin Valton, who has become a full-time winemaker, in order to develop the estate and ensure its long-term future! The pride of the small, 5-hectare Domaine Vignau la Juscle, located in the communes of Saint-Faust and Aubertin, is the estate's estate, producing several wines ranging from red Vin de France to Jurançon Vendanges Tardives. Numerous grape varieties, such as Syrah and Petit Verdot for the reds, Camaralet and Petit Courbu for the dry wines, and of course the indispensable Petit Manseng for the dry and sweet wines, thrive on the estate's steep slopes, which are entirely surrounded by forests. The soils, a mosaic of terroirs, range from rounded pebbles scattered with small white mica flakes, to the limestone and clay subsoil of the upper slopes, and the deeper, siltier soils of the lower slopes. The terroir expresses itself through a strong personality, characterized by vibrant freshness, intense fruitiness, and a long, lingering finish.
