Anecdotes from the "Unknown Winemaker" Estate: Lost amidst the vines, we have had, for as long as anyone can remember, a silent tenant. A simple grave, at the end of a row of vines, is his home. This unmarked burial site is not recorded in any document, but it is the origin of the name "The Unknown Winemaker" given to this plot planted with old Cabernet Sauvignon and a few Merlot vines. Who was he? The story goes that some jewelry disappeared from a neighboring house and that a poor winemaker was accused of the theft and summarily hanged. The jewelry was recovered shortly afterward, and the owner, to make amends, reserved a place for him among the vines and promised that his family would maintain the grave… Since then, what is certain is that the grave is always regularly adorned with flowers. And, on some foggy evenings, several neighbors have glimpsed fleeting shadows around the grave, shadows that vanish as one approaches. A brief history of the estate: In 1929, Jacques Regaud, an agricultural engineer and passionate about viticulture, began researching the terroirs best suited to producing great wines before undertaking the planting. Jean-Pierre Regaud returned in 1979 to continue his father's work after spending a few years overseas. He immediately embarked on an ambitious project: equipping the Château with a modern winery, fully fitted with stainless steel tanks and the latest innovations of the time, including temperature control. The next generation took up the mantle in 1996, in the person of Michaël Regaud. The same passion for wine, the same love of travel, and always the pioneering spirit that characterizes the family. Its cornerstones: the meticulous selection of wood from around the world and constantly refined winemaking and aging techniques. The pride of the estate: The vineyard, a family property since 1616, overlooks the Dropt Valley, in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers region. For three generations, we have harvested, aged, and bottled the great wines that have made our estate famous.
