Anecdotes from the Estate: The Estate's Story. It was in 1985 that the first stone of the Quercy Winegrowers' Cellar was laid and the first vintage was bottled... and already the first awards were being received (Gold Medal in Paris, Toulouse, Southwest France, etc.). These initial results were encouraging and reassuring for this small group of determined farmers who chose cooperation and working together, setting aside their egos, believing that the harmony of terroir, climate, and grape varieties is crucial to the quality of their wines, rather than the notion of land ownership. The work in the vineyards, the selection of individual plots, and the winemaking process do the rest to bring out the best in each plot's potential. In this region where farms are small, mixed farming is the norm. Thus, while there isn't a high concentration of vineyards, we also don't have the associated problems. New, healthy land is available for replanting, and vine disease pressure is reduced. Could polyculture, the first principle of biodynamics, be the future of viticulture? It's a collective story, a story of men and women, a human-scale cooperative that today brings together 24 producers cultivating 120 hectares of vines spread across the terroirs of the Coteaux du Quercy AOP.
