Château Du Cèdre

Juvéniles 2023

Cahors | Red | 2023

This Cahors "Juvéniles" from Château du Cèdre is made primarily from Malbec, complemented by Merlot and Tannat, grown on clay-limestone plots on the left bank of the Lot River. The grapes are destemmed, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and then aged in tanks to preserve the fruit. The style is intended to be balanced and approachable: round on the palate, with supple tannins and a beautiful expression of the terroir without excessive oak influence.

Our opinion on the vintage

The nose opens with a generous bouquet of ripe plum, wild blackberry, and peppery nuances, underpinned by a touch of graphite. On the palate, the attack is direct, the texture ripe and velvety, supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. Notes of blackcurrant and black cherry emerge, enhanced by a mineral touch that invigorates the tasting. The finish, pleasantly long, reveals hints of sweet spices and a light tannic grain, offering a harmonious balance between power and elegance.

In Cahors, the Malbec from Cèdre finds a sculpted breadth, never harsh. The Verhaeghe brothers work with meticulous precision: controlled ripeness, integrated oak, a firm yet approachable structure. The wine develops depth without losing sight of balance.
