Domaine Marcel Deiss

L'Arche 2022

Vin de France | Orange | 2022

This unique cuvée celebrates a rich collection of 60 forgotten Alsatian grape varieties, cultivated on a terroir composed of Jurassic limestone and Lias marl. Thanks to its south-facing exposure, far from the Vosges Mountains, these grapes benefit from an ideal climate. Vinification combines direct pressing and maceration in amphorae, resulting in a complex and refined profile, enriched by the blending of two vintages. This wine stands out for its artisanal and committed approach.

Our opinion on the vintage

On the nose, this wine reveals a fascinating aromatic complexity, with floral and mineral notes, a legacy of the 60 grape varieties that compose it. On the palate, it offers a beautiful vivacity, guided by a subtle, silky texture and rare elegance. Maceration in amphora lends it surprising depth and intensity, while the low level of residual sugar underscores its freshness. It is a true tribute to biodiversity and the ancestral art of winemaking, sure to appeal to lovers of authentic wines steeped in history.

In the heart of Bergheim, one of Alsace’s oldest wine villages, Domaine Marcel Deiss has embodied a visionary and deeply respectful approach to wine for several generations. Here, the vine is not seen as a mere succession of grape varieties, but as a living ecosystem dedicated to the terroir. In this privileged part of Alsace, the Deiss family ardently champions complantation, an ancestral practice of planting several grape varieties in the same plot to allow the soil, exposure, and climate to express themselves fully.

Each vineyard thus becomes a unique natural work, where grapes ripen together and complement each other to produce wines of rare complexity. The soils – limestone, marl-sandstone, volcanic, or clay-limestone – are cultivated biodynamically to preserve their vitality and reveal their full energy. The result: cuvées of striking depth, both ... Lire plus
