The winemakers of Plaimont are proud of their unique vineyard heritage, including a 200-year-old pre-phylloxera plot of vines, listed as a Historical Monument! Anecdotes from the estate: "When the Plaimont adventure began in 1978, 50 winemakers decided to go to Paris to do demonstrations in shops and raise awareness. People felt we had a great rapport with them; it was fantastic! Winemakers coming to sell their wines in Paris, our accents and berets—you could practically smell the sunshine! They thought they were on holiday right there in the shop. 'Look at my hands!' 'Ah yes! You work with your hands!' Or it would be, 'But you have an accent!' So we'd tell them, 'It's not us, it's you who have an accent!' After that, we continued the demonstrations, and they became increasingly professional. It seems the new generation is even taking English lessons." Jean-Claude Saint-Guilhem, former President of the Saint-Mont Winery: "Cooperation was founded by people, for people, and to serve people. The winemakers started with this in mind: cooperation is our home! (...) It seems to me that in a cooperative, one is all, like in d'Artagnan's words, 'all for one and one for all'." Jacques Labrouches, former President of the Saint-Mont Winery: The history of the estate: Located in the heart of the southwest, the Plaimont vineyard stretches from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the rolling hills of Gascony. Cultivating exclusively indigenous grape varieties (Tannat, Pinenc, Manseng Noir, Gros and Petit Manseng, Colombard, etc.), and working with respect for the environment, the winemakers of Plaimont are proud of their unique plant heritage, including a 200-year-old pre-phylloxera vineyard listed as a Historical Monument! They have always been involved in promoting and enlivening their region, rich in traditions and events. That's why they invite you to discover their appellations, châteaux, grape varieties, and terroirs through guided tours of their vineyards. The pride of the estate: Since its creation, Plaimont has been committed to showcasing the endemic grape varieties of its region and works every day to rediscover them. "In 2002, we created our own ampelographic conservatory*. This 'living library' guarantees the typicity of our wines and the future of our appellations." “Tomorrow, some of the still-unknown grape varieties in this conservatory will define our great appellation wines.” Olivier Bourdet-Pees, Managing Director of Plaimont. After studying these grape varieties in the vineyard, Plaimont built the Grape Variety Workshop, a research and innovation winery where, since 2023, it has been experimenting with these rediscovered indigenous grape varieties. The results of these experiments are then used to reintroduce these grape varieties into the appellations where Plaimont operates. *Ampelography: refers to the study of grape varieties, also known as grape varieties.
