Wines that are heirs to a long history, but revisited by the New World. Our name evokes the two springs that flow through the property, but also the two couples who were reunited here... Anecdotes from the estate: Our philosophy is to work in harmony with a remarkable environment and to preserve its beauty and diversity for future generations. To mark this commitment, we have begun converting the estate to organic viticulture. Off the beaten track, the estate is located on the edge of the Bois de Monnier Massif, a natural ecological area that shelters remarkable flora and fauna. Between wadis and sinkholes, the garrigue takes on the colors of the African savannah and is a privileged place for 150 species of birds, including the famous European Bee-eater… which appears on some of our labels. A little history of the estate: The presence of vines in the Montoulieu valley dates back to antiquity, and the current estate was built on the foundations of an ancient Gallo-Roman villa. The Damais family took over the nearly abandoned Domaine de la Devèze in 1963 and developed it for over 50 years: planting improved grape varieties (Syrah, Carignan, Viognier, etc.) and creating one of the region's first private wineries. In 2017, Hélène Taillefer, after several experiences in the food industry and 20 years spent abroad, embarked on a career change into winemaking and was the catalyst for two life-changing encounters. First, she met Kirsten and Glen Creasy, who had just left New Zealand and were looking for a new winemaking adventure in the Languedoc. Glen is a professor and researcher in viticulture at the University of Lincoln and author of 'Grapes', an internationally acclaimed book. Kirsten is a winemaker with 30 years of experience as an oenologist in France and abroad. A few months later, Hélène met the Damais family and discovered that her father and Marcel Damais came from the same Chelif plain and even had mutual friends. From these two encounters, Terre des 2 Sources was born: a preserved paradise and a human adventure. The pride of the estate, protected by the foothills of the Cévennes, covers 40 hectares in a pristine valley at the northern edge of the Terrasses du Larzac appellation. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone, but with pebbles and stones of varying sizes (for example, gravel). These factors, combined with a multitude of slopes and exposures, create a very wide range of terroirs. Although Mediterranean, the climate is tempered by the altitude and the surrounding mountains (Mont Haut and Plateau du Thaurac). This results in cooler nights and higher acidity in the grapes. All these elements and the diversity of grape varieties (17 different varieties) allow us to produce wines recognized for their energy, elegance and passion.
