Pinot noir Le Vieux Chemin 2022

Alsace | Rouge | 2022

This Pinot Noir comes from the marl-and-loam “Altweg” terroir, adjacent to Zellberg. Hand-harvested, fermented whole-cluster in concrete eggs, and aged naturally without sulfites. The wine is light and airy, with a delicate and elegant texture, carried by a subtle natural effervescence. A fresh red, less heavy but with lovely aromatic tension.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The translucent color, somewhere between vermilion and brick red, is charming. The nose blends delicate flowers, warm stone, candied morello cherries, and a refreshing hint of minerality. On the palate, the attack is light and airy, with remarkable finesse—almost ethereal. A light effervescence accentuates the tension, resulting in a lively, tart, and clean palate. The red fruit remains present, supported by a spicy finish and a hint of damp earth after the rain. By removing the carbonation, the wine gains elegance and finesse without losing any of its character. A natural, easy-drinking, and refined Pinot Noir, perfect with poultry, mushrooms, or specific vegetable dishes.

Alsace | France

In Alsace, Domaine Julien Meyer employs a biodynamic methodology, with particular attention paid to soil vitality and the natural balance of the grapes. Riesling, Sylvaner, and Gewurztraminer are vinified there with a focus on maximum transparency, often without added sulfur.

The vinification process favors limited interventions, allowing fermentations to express themselves freely. The wines may exhibit a slight fermentative texture, which is embraced as a stylistic component, while maintaining a vibrant profile and precise varietal expression. Aging is conducted over extended periods, imparting progressive depth without compromising the wines' profiles.

All the cuvées are distinguished by a pronounced and consistent personality, offering a direct and vibrant interpretation of the Alsatian terroirs. The domaine embraces a unique aesthetic, rooted in observation, patience, and respect for the natural rhythm of the wines.
