Cirrus 2021

Val De Loire | Blanc | 2021

This wine, produced from a 29-hectare organic vineyard, is distinguished by its oceanic character.

The proximity to the Atlantic coast, the richness of Lake Grandlieu (recognized as the largest natural lowland lake in France), and its location at the westernmost edge of the Loire Valley give Domaine Eric Chevalier a unique climate. Between the mild influence of the lake and the saltiness of the ocean breeze, the wines bear the distinct mark of “where they were born.”
The 20- and 10-year-old vines, planted in sandy and silty soils, are entirely dedicated to Fié gris (Sauvignon rosé). The winemaking process includes hand-harvesting, whole-cluster maceration, and aging on lees for 11 to 12 months.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The color is a (very) intense gold. The nose is refined and deep, with delicate resinous notes. The palate is slender, held taut by a delicate acidity, while unfolding a round, ripe texture with a velvety mouthfeel—almost rich and creamy—and aromas blending yellow fruits, candied citrus, and a persistent resinous touch. The whole is refreshed by a subtle effervescence. The finish prolongs the tension of the palate, with a more concentrated and sap-like texture

In Loire-Atlantique, Domaine Éric Chevalier is engaged in a qualitative reinterpretation of the Pays Nantais vineyard. The estate primarily cultivates Melon de Bourgogne, as well as more niche grape varieties like Fié Gris, seeking to reveal their full potential on demanding terroirs.

The vineyard rests on gneiss and schist soils, which impart a dry structure and distinct character to the wines. Vinifications are conducted with precision to preserve the natural tension of the musts and aromatic clarity. The wines are built on straightforward balances, featuring clean fruit and mouth-watering finishes, without seeking opulence.

The estate's overall work offers a contemporary and clear interpretation of the Pays Nantais, highlighting the freshness, precision, and varietal identity. These are clear and structured wines, true to their origin and a rigorous approach to winemaking.
