Saint-Chinian | Rouge | 2023

This AOC Saint-Chinian Berlou wine is distinguished by its meticulous vinification. Primarily made from Mourvèdre, it thrives on schist soils located between 250 and 300 meters in altitude, an ideal terroir due to its exceptional natural conditions. The vines benefit from agro-ecological viticulture, enjoying a climate tempered by a constant breeze. Vinification in stainless steel tanks, with destemming and regular punch-downs, ensures optimal aroma extraction, while tank aging for 10 months provides excellent roundness.

Our Review of the Cuvée

Upon opening, this wine exhibits remarkable aromatic intensity. On the nose, complex aromas of dark fruits and spices unfold, evoking the surrounding garrigue. On the palate, Mourvèdre contributes an elegant structure and significant depth. The tannins are present yet silky, contributing to an enveloping and harmonious texture. With each sip, the altitude and the distinctive character of the schist soils are expressed through a refreshing minerality, offering a perfect balance that awakens the senses. This wine is a true discovery for enthusiasts of authentic terroirs.

These cuvées exhibit an instinctive harmony, as if the diverse grape varieties of Minervois willingly coexist. Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault: each contributes a nuance without dominating. The rarer white wines are particularly surprising. The vinifications are straightforward, occasionally a bit rustic, yet the overall expression maintains genuine sincerity. In short: excellent drinkability.
