Rivairenc 2023

Languedoc | Rouge | 2023

Sourced from organically cultivated vines on Domaine Ampelhus, this unique wine is produced from Rivairenc, a traditional grape variety reintroduced to cultivation by Thibaud Vermillard. Planted on south-facing slopes, these old vines benefit from an exceptional terroir similar to Châteauneuf du Pape. Winemaking without inputs, with only a hint of sulfur before bottling, ensures a pure and fresh product, ideal for discerning connoisseurs.

Our Review of the Cuvée

Upon opening, the nose captivates with notes of fresh red berries and subtle spices. The palate, silky and structured, reveals fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The natural freshness of the Rivairenc, a result of controlled ripeness, provides a refined balance. The flavors extend elegantly, supported by harmonious acidity, leading to a long and invigorating finish. A wine that charms with its originality and authentic character.

Domaine Ampelhus

Domaine Ampelhus

Languedoc | France

In Faugères, Domaine Ampelhus leverages schist soils, characteristic of the appellation, which promote structured and elegant expressions. The vineyard is predominantly planted with Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan, Mediterranean grape varieties interpreted here with a focus on balance rather than sheer power.

Vineyard management is based on organic practices, enabling precise soil analysis and optimal ripeness control. In the cellar, vinifications are conducted gently to preserve the purity of the fruit and the finesse of the textures. Extractions remain measured, without aiming to over-concentrate.

The wines exhibit a tight grain and consistent tension, supported by precise and restrained aromatics. The profiles avoid excessive ripeness, favoring linearity and clarity. The domain's overall approach offers a measured and coherent interpretation of Faugères, based on freshness, structure, and fidelity to the terroir.
