Discovering Fleurie

What a beautiful view from here, don't you think? I am at the foot of the Chapelle de la Madone, in the middle of the commune of Fleurie. As is often the case in the region, this chapel would have been built to attract the protection of the Virgin against the vine disease. It seems to work!

I'm back today for a Beaujolais moment in the magnificent hillsides of Fleurie, one of the 10 crus of the Beaujolais. Here, we are at an altitude of over 400 meters. One might as well say that the vines and wine growers of Fleurie are not afraid of heights! For example, on the south side of the hill where I am, we work on slopes of 50%! The wine of Fleurie is exclusively red, like all the Beaujolais crus. It is fine and elegant, like its slopes. Ideal with the leg of lamb at Easter.
