Le Fondis Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil 2022

Saint-Nicolas-De-Bourgueil | Rouge | 2022

Sourced from the hamlet of Le Fondis, this cuvée comes from a vineyard that has been historically renowned for the quality of its wines for over 300 years. Situated on deep gravel soils resting on a clay base, it benefits from remarkable natural balance, yielding healthy and perfectly ripe grapes.

This terroir, which is relatively unaffected by climatic fluctuations, allows for the production of a Cabernet Franc that is consistently high in quality and has a strong identity. The vines are cultivated using biodynamic methods, with practices that respect natural balances and promote the purest expression of the terroir.

The winemaking process is characterized by an original “integral winemaking” approach, with fermentation taking place directly in 500-liter demi-muids and without any additives. Aging, which lasts 18 to 24 months in these same containers, imparts depth, complexity, and structure to the wine.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The color is deep, with intense highlights, hinting at a wine of fine concentration. The nose opens with aromas of ripe black fruits, intermingled with spicy and slightly woody notes, reflecting expert aging.

On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and dense, with a rich, structured texture. The tannins are present but perfectly integrated, providing the wine with a beautiful backbone. The wine as a whole reveals great depth, balanced by a freshness that extends the finish.

A powerful and elegant wine, built for aging, that pairs perfectly with hearty dishes such as beef cheek, duck confit, or cassoulet.

Domaine Amirault, le Clos des Quarterons

Loire | France

Located in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Clos des Quarterons is a family estate rooted in the region for over 180 years. It is currently managed by Xavier Amirault and his wife Agnès, who cultivate approximately 30 hectares of vines within the appellation's strictly defined area.

The vineyard benefits from a particularly favorable environment: a forest to the north protects the plots from cold winds, while south-facing slopes provide consistent sunshine. The soils exhibit significant diversity, blending gravels, tuffeau directly exposed in the limestone, and deeper areas with a predominant clay composition. This geological variety necessitates precise plot-by-plot management.

The estate is managed using organic farming practices, complemented by a progressively integrated biodynamic approach, with particular attention paid to vine observation and soil vitality. Vinifications are conducted plot by plot to preserve the specific characteristics of each terroir.
