Les Gravilices 2022

Bourgueil | Rouge | 2022

Grown on deep gravel soils, the Les Gravilices cuvée derives its character from a particularly well-drained terroir that promotes early ripening and consistently well-ripened, balanced grapes. This type of soil gives the wine a generous expression of fruit while retaining a lovely freshness.

This 100% Cabernet Franc is grown using organic and biodynamic farming methods, with a focus on preserving the vineyard’s natural balance. Grass cover is encouraged, and interventions in the vineyard are kept to a minimum to allow the terroir to fully express itself.

The wine is made in low-sided oak casks, which promote gentle extraction through infusion. After about three weeks of maceration, the wine is aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak casks for 12 to 16 months, lending balance and precision to the final product.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The wine displays beautiful intensity with ruby highlights. The nose opens with luscious aromas of red and black fruits, evolving after aeration into more candied notes of cherry and plum.

On the palate, the attack is supple and round, offering an accessible and balanced body. The fruit dominates, supported by well-integrated tannins and a delicate structure. The wine evolves with finesse, carried by a lovely freshness that extends the finish.

A wine that is both charming and elegant, ideal with white meats, prepared fish such as semi-cured salmon, or cheeses.

Domaine Amirault, le Clos des Quarterons

Loire | France

Located in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Clos des Quarterons is a family estate rooted in the region for over 180 years. It is currently managed by Xavier Amirault and his wife Agnès, who cultivate approximately 30 hectares of vines within the appellation's strictly defined area.

The vineyard benefits from a particularly favorable environment: a forest to the north protects the plots from cold winds, while south-facing slopes provide consistent sunshine. The soils exhibit significant diversity, blending gravels, tuffeau directly exposed in the limestone, and deeper areas with a predominant clay composition. This geological variety necessitates precise plot-by-plot management.

The estate is managed using organic farming practices, complemented by a progressively integrated biodynamic approach, with particular attention paid to vine observation and soil vitality. Vinifications are conducted plot by plot to preserve the specific characteristics of each terroir.
