Côte Roannaise | Red | 2023

This estate wine is the result of rigorous biodynamic viticulture. The vines, planted on a rich terroir of gorrhe (a type of peat), benefit from ideal exposure and are cultivated at a high density, contributing to a precise expression of the Gamay St-Romain. The meticulous, hand-harvested grapes, followed by whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts, allow for the development of an elegant and refined structure, complemented by aging in wooden vats.

Our opinion on the vintage

On the nose, this wine offers a delicate symphony of red fruits and elegant floral notes. On the palate, the attack is fresh and lively, revealing aromas of cherry and raspberry, underpinned by a beautiful minerality. The texture is both fine and taut, providing a length on the palate that delights the senses. The tannins are subtle, building a balanced and harmonious structure. Tasted recently, it stands out as the estate's finest cuvée, truly sublime in its expression.

In the Côte Roannaise, Domaine Sérol is run by Stéphane Sérol, who took over the family estate in 1998. The vineyard now covers approximately 28 hectares, located on the volcanic slopes of the Roannaise region, a geological context which imparts a characteristic tension and freshness to the wines.

The estate is managed organically, with careful soil management based on the addition of organic matter and lime, to maintain the vineyard's vitality and the vine's balance. The harvest is done by hand, with rigorous sorting of the bunches, ensuring that the grapes are picked at optimal ripeness.

The winemaking process is carried out plot by plot, with each cuvée crafted separately to reveal the nuances of each terroir. The winery is primarily equipped with concrete tanks, supplemented by a few truncated conical wooden vats. Fermentation occurs using indigenous yeasts, without any intervention, in an approach that remains true to ... Lire plus
