Diary #2 by Anne Gremillet of the Gremillet Champagne House: We are a family-owned estate and a young Champagne house, with only 35 years of history. That’s very little compared to the great Champagne houses, some of which have two or three hundred years of history. We have made this uniqueness our motto. In the Gremillet family, we don’t claim a long history—we create it day by day!

The 2015 harvest at the Gremillet Champagne House

Before I begin this diary by telling you the story of our estate, let me say a few words about our 2015 harvest. It was very healthy; there was virtually no need to sort the grapes. But we’re still in the winemaking phase—and in that area, my brother Jean-Christophe is the master behind it all! So it’s still too early to say anything definitive about the final quality. But we’re confident. Here in Champagne, we like to say that years ending in 5 produce fine vintages, and it looks like that’s proving true once again.

From a 3,000-square-meter plot to a 40-hectare estate in Champagne

In the mid-1970s, my grandmother Lulu invested her savings in 30 acres of vineyards, which she bequeathed to my father, Jean-Michel—a former EDF employee—in 1978. It was then that my father set about building the vineyard, approaching the task with pragmatism and always with an eye toward passing it on to the next generation. The family estate has grown rapidly and now encompasses 40 hectares under cultivation, with an annual production of 500,000 bottles.

The Gremillet Champagne family is growing

In 2003, my brother Jean-Christophe joined the estate and took charge of the winemaking processes we hadn’t yet mastered. This led to significant investments in our production facilities. Now equipped with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities, our priority is to develop the brand so that it gains recognition in its own right. And that is how I joined this wonderful family adventure, taking charge of marketing and communications. Jean-Christophe and I were joined by our respective spouses, and together with our parents, we form the core of Champagne Gremillet. We are a close-knit team, driven by genuine sincerity and authenticity that our friends, customers, and partners can feel.
