He is convinced that there are as many different climates in Roussillon as in Burgundy . Thomas Teibert is a true wine enthusiast who celebrates the diversity of terroirs in his region. He realized his dream of starting a winery in 2007 by creating Domaine de l'Horizon, and he answers our questions with great sincerity!

When I was 12, there was a TV series that rekindled my passion! Hundreds of books and bottles later, the passion is now firmly established, and it's here to stay for life!

Then, after my years of apprenticeship and study, I was the manager of an estate in Italy. In 2003, during a tasting, I met Gérard Gauby and tasted the new wines he had been making since 2002. I was deeply impressed and had a flash of insight: how to make such fresh and mineral wines in the south of France?

For me, being a winemaker is the opportunity to combine a passion for nature, agriculture, and wine! A winemaker is able to transform a single fruit into something so complex… and with almost eternal aging potential!

Winemaking begins in the mind! And there, things are very clear to me: I know where I want to go and how to get there. But all of this is only possible with the good will of nature!

Calce is truly unique, and I haven't yet found another place quite like it. It's always the landscape, the soil, the grape varieties that point the way, and I think the character of the wine from this land must reflect that!

No room for classification in Languedoc, according to Thomas Teibert, winemaker at Domaine de l'Horizon

There would theoretically be room for classification in Languedoc , but our situation is very different because there are many more grape varieties and climatic zones between the sea and the mountains. Therefore, I don't think it's very realistic in the short term. But we could start with the villages, or with a portion of a municipality's vineyard area… However, the INAO's approach isn't very appealing in my opinion, even though I know it's never easy because opinions and interests are sometimes too conflicting!

If I went to another terroir, it would be the same! Because the philosophy of the land doesn't change, and neither does the winemaker's "touch"! But it's an exciting project, and I'd love to make wines somewhere other than Calce!

Horizon Rouge! There is a part of me revealed in this wine: deep, wild, sometimes austere if it's a bad day, but in principle joyful, complex and delicious!

I chose to sell my wines on Les Grappes because it's a platform that explains things clearly and in a relaxed way! Wine is something magical, but it's too often portrayed as elitist and stuffy! It's a drink to be shared, and pleasure is paramount!! And I think they understand that perfectly!!
