Our Review of the Cuvée

In the glass, this 2023 Volnay Village displays a vivid, crystalline ruby color—light yet elegantly deep—reflecting the clay-limestone terroir of the Côte de Beaune. On the nose, the expression is delicate and refined: ripe cherry, fresh red berries, and a hint of undergrowth blend gracefully, evoking a first stroll through the vineyards at dusk. On the palate, the attack is supple and airy, carried by a vibrant freshness. The body, with a delicate mid-palate, unfolds a silky texture where the tannins are hinted at rather than imposed, subtly enveloping the fruit. The finish, nuanced and persistent, leaves an impression of purity and finesse, inviting both contemplation and conviviality. An expressive and graceful Volnay, which charms with its balance and poetry.

Domaine Cauvard is a family-owned winery located in Beaune, Burgundy. It cultivates approximately eighteen hectares of vineyards spread across several communes in the Côte de Beaune, including appellations such as Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Aloxe-Corton, Corton-Charlemagne, and Hautes-Côtes de Beaune.

Production follows a traditional approach, with a focus on vineyard management and plot-by-plot winemaking to preserve the identity of each terroir. Harvesting may be done by hand or by machine, depending on the vintage.

I do not have any information regarding the year the estate was established or whether it holds any official organic or environmental certifications.
