Vin de France | Orange | 2023

Grown on the limestone-sandstone soils of Stierkopf in Mutzig, this wine is produced from certified organic grapes. The whole clusters undergo a 14-day maceration, with natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts, followed by 8 months of aging on the lees in large oak casks. After gentle filtration through cellulose plates, it is best enjoyed soon after opening to fully appreciate its aromatic qualities.

Our Review of the Cuvée

Upon opening, the nose reveals subtle aromas of ripe fruit and light floral notes. On the palate, the attack is soft and refreshing, giving way to a velvety texture thanks to its aging on the lees. The tannins are pronounced but not harsh, providing a harmonious structure that makes every sip a true delight. Notes of fresh fruit linger on the finish, evoking a stroll through the vineyards of Mutzig. A wine that charms with its balance and assertive personality.

In Mittelbergheim, Alsace, Jean-Pierre Rietsch manages his estate following an organic approach, coupled with natural winemaking processes executed with great precision. Vineyard management aims for optimal balance, allowing the grapes to express their terroir without pursuing excessive ripeness.

Rieslings, Sylvaners, and Pinot Gris are vinified to achieve dry and precise profiles, characterized by distinct tension and a nuanced aromatic expression. Fermentations are extended, and aging is patient, resulting in wines that are clear and stable, with limited but always controlled interventions. This approach preserves the clarity of the profiles without resorting to approximation.

The cuvées are distinguished by their digestibility, delicate texture, and a balanced palate presence, supported by extended finishes. The estate's overall work is recognized for the consistency of its technical choices and the precision of its expressions, offering a sober and faithful interpretation of the Mittelbergheim terroirs.
