Champagne Charles Legend
The vineyard is located in the Côte des Bar, in southern Champagne, about 100 kilometers from Épernay. This distinctive terroir combines several natural factors that give our Champagnes... Estate Anecdotes: The name "Charles Legend" reflects the influence of Charles II of England and the English on Champagne. Indeed, Charles II, then exiled in France, fell in love with Champagne wines and imported them to London upon his return in 1660. The English, accustomed to sparkling wines (beer, cider, etc.), had cork stoppers and bottles more resistant than those in France. They then developed the first secondary fermentation in Champagne wine, notably by adding sugar from their colonies in the Caribbean. It was a resounding success that spread throughout Europe. The Estate's History: The vineyard is located in the Côte des Bar, in southern Champagne, about 100 kilometers from Épernay. This distinctive terroir combines several natural factors that give our champagnes their complexity and uniqueness. We work exclusively with the two grape varieties that thrive in this terroir. Pinot Noir gives our champagnes rich fruit aromas, plenty of character, and a beautiful structure. As for Chardonnay, characterized by its suppleness and delicacy, it brings light and fresh aromas to our champagnes. Charles Legend champagnes were created thanks to the passion and determination of their founders, who wanted to create innovative champagnes with very low dosage of sugars and sulfites. These champagnes were developed to meet the expectations of champagne connoisseurs but also to allow new consumers to discover new, fine, and elegant champagnes. The pride of the estate: The estate is located in the Côte des Bar, in the southern Champagne region. Only two grape varieties are cultivated here: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which flourish in this terroir. Founded by three passionate individuals determined to create innovative champagnes with very low dosage of sugars and sulfites, Domaine Charles Legend was named in homage to Charles II of England and his influence on the development of champagne in the 17th century.
