Kixka 2020

Irouléguy | Red | 2020

The Kixka cuvée is a red wine made from Tannat and Cabernet Franc grapes, sourced from the steep vineyards of the Bordaxuria estate, cultivated using traditional and organic methods. Located on a terroir rich in red sandstone, the vineyard benefits from a south-facing exposure, which contributes to optimal grape ripening. This wine receives meticulous attention at every stage, from the hand-harvesting to careful aging in 400-liter barrels for 18 months.

Our opinion on the vintage

Kixka boasts a deep, dark color, revealing its distinctive character. On the nose, it intensely expresses aromas typical of Southwest France, imbued with richness and character. On the palate, this Tannat delivers a solid structure where the well-integrated tannins unfold smoothly. The balance is subtle, supported by a touch of salinity on the finish, adding another dimension to the tasting experience. Paired with duck confit, this wine reveals its full potential in a delightful marriage of flavors.

Domaine Bordaxuria

Sud-Ouest | France

Domaine Bordaxuria is located in Ispoure, in the Irouléguy wine region, and was created in the 1980s by the Reca family. The three daughters of the family took over the estate in 2014, developing both the winemaking and cheesemaking aspects of the family farm.

The estate covers 9 hectares of vineyards, 80% of which are terraced on silty and sandstone soils very rich in iron. The red grape varieties are primarily Tannat, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon in smaller quantities, and the white grape varieties include Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, and Petit Courbu. The vineyards are currently undergoing organic conversion.

The wines produced are red, white and rosé, with controlled yields between 22 and 30 hl/ha. The estate seeks to reflect the unique terroir of the steep slopes of Irouléguy while respecting the natural balance of the vine.
