LA JASSE CASTEL
Anecdotes from the Estate: I am a winemaker and deeply committed to my craft. In 2009, I co-founded the Vinifilles association with 20 other women winemakers from the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This idea simply stemmed from a desire to get together, to share our experiences, to present a more realistic image of women winemakers, and to talk about wine from a woman's perspective. We share a strong bond and support each other. The Estate's Story: My story unfolded gradually; nothing predisposed me to become a winemaker, but my path led me there, as if it were meant to be. A writer, journalist, and wine teacher, my dream of creating my own estate materialized in 1997. I fell under the spell of the dramatic Causse de Montpeyroux. Since then, every day has been a new adventure, a delight I love to share. The pride of the estate, the winery, is located in the commune of Saint Jean de Fos, near the small village of Saint Guilhem le Désert. The 10 hectares of vines are planted primarily in the Terrasses du Larzac and Languedoc Montpeyroux appellations, where the vineyards reach an altitude of 400 meters. Depending on the four red grape varieties, the different soils contribute complexity to the wines: sand, gravel, clay-limestone, and limestone subsoil. To preserve the unique character of the soils and the local wildlife, all the vines are cultivated organically. The harvest is done by hand, and yields are very limited (15 to 25 hl/ha).
