Chardonnay Champs Poids 2021

Côtes du Jura | Blanc | 2021

Anne and Jean-François Ganevat’s 2021 Champs Poids is a great Jura white wine, made from Chardonnay grapes grown on a plot planted in 1986 near Arbois. This vineyard site rests on Bajocian limestone soils, whose chalky nature and coolness play a fundamental role in the wine’s balance. The vines are tended with the utmost respect for organic and biodynamic farming practices by a winemaker and friend of the estate, André-Jean Morin, following an approach faithful to Jean-François Ganevat’s convictions.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The wine has a pure and elegant nose, blending citrus, apple, and white flowers, then revealing chalky and smoky notes as it opens up. On the palate, it combines structure and fullness, with a delicate acidity that balances the fruit’s ripeness. The texture is rich yet fresh, developing notes of zest, pear, and minerality. The wine remains deep, precise, and long on the finish. A truly beautiful Chardonnay from the Jura.

Located in Rotalier in the Jura, Domaine Ganevat embodies one of the most unique and accomplished expressions of the Jura vineyard. Led by Jean-François Ganevat, the estate is built upon meticulous work on family plots, often planted with old vines, cultivated according to demanding organic principles and close to biodynamics.

Here, each vine is tended as a distinct entity. The soils, predominantly composed of marl, calcareous scree, and clay, are ploughed and maintained to preserve their vitality and natural balance. Yields are intentionally kept low to concentrate the expression of the grape and the terroir, without artifice.

In the cellar, the philosophy remains consistent: minimal intervention, maximum precision. Fermentations occur naturally, and aging periods are extended, often in old barrels or neutral vessels, to never ... Read more
