Douro Drink me 2021

Douro | Red | 2021

This Douro wine combines elegance and approachability, offering a complex structure while remaining pleasant on the palate. The vines, aged between 10 and 40 years, benefit from schist soil and varying altitudes, allowing for a manual harvest in September. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 14 months of aging in a combination of French oak barrels and used oak casks for a balanced structure.

Our opinion on the vintage

At first glance, this wine displays a deep, translucent garnet color. Its nose seduces with enticing aromas of blackberry coulis, incense, and licorice. On the palate, it reveals a round and ample texture, where flavors of candied black cherry and chocolate intertwine. Mentholated notes bring a vibrant freshness, while the long and flavorful finish is marked by sweet spices and stewed dark fruits. Hints of leather and pepper enrich the whole, prolonging the pleasure of the tasting.

Nieeport

Douro | Portugal

Niepoort is a renowned Portuguese winery founded in 1842 by Fransiscus Marius van der Niepoort in Porto, in the heart of the Douro region. Today, it has been run by the family for five generations. It is known for its historic Port wines as well as its high-quality dry wines produced in the Douro Valley and other Portuguese regions.

Over time, Niepoort acquired several wine estates, including Quinta de Nápoles and Quinta do Carril in the Cima Corgo sub-region, to cultivate its own old vines, some over 80 years old. The winery thus produces a wide range of red, white, rosé, and fortified wines that reflect the diversity of the Douro's schist terroirs and the family's approach to winemaking.

Under the leadership of Dirk Niepoort, the house has broadened its focus towards modern dry wines, with cuvées that combine elegance, finesse and tradition, while maintaining a reputation for excellence
