Nota Bene 2021

Vin de France | Red | 2021

This Gamay is hand-harvested to maximize berry quality. Whole-cluster fermentation and malolactic fermentation impart a pleasing roundness to the wine. Ten months of aging in oak barrels enriches its aromatic profile, giving it an elegant and balanced structure. Grown on clay-siliceous soil, this wine offers a pure expression of its terroir while respecting gentle winemaking practices, with very low use of sulfites.

Our opinion on the vintage

The initial nose reveals a complex array of crisp red fruits, accompanied by subtle spicy notes. On the palate, the texture is silky and the tannins are fine, promoting a harmonious balance. The aromas develop gradually, unveiling delicate woody nuances that attest to oak aging. A mineral undertone completes the whole, bringing freshness and length to the finish. This is a wine that delights the senses while remaining pure and approachable.

In Cheverny, Domaine Tessier, run by Philippe Tessier, consistently cultivates the region's emblematic grape varieties: Romorantin, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gamay. The vineyard is managed organically, with particular attention paid to the quality of the raw materials and the balance of the soils.

The winemaking process follows a natural, minimal-intervention approach, aiming to preserve the clarity of the fruit and the precision of the balance. The white wines favor vertical and taut profiles, driven by consistent acidity and a clear expression of the grape varieties. The reds, on the other hand, are distinguished by their freshness and a very fluid texture, achieved through judicious extraction.

All the wines are characterized by great clarity and a marked stylistic consistency. The estate offers a luminous and precise expression of Cheverny, now recognized as an essential benchmark of the appellation.
