TERRE DE GHAYA

GHAYA LAND

Provence | France

Located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, the Terre de Ghaya estate is a true family property established in 2019. The vineyard, dating back to the 1900s, is located in the commune of Bedoin... Anecdotes from the estate: A true passion for life. The estate's history: Our winery is a unique place where we practice gravity-flow winemaking. Where traditional winemaking uses pumps, gravity-flow winemaking allows us to work with the grapes respectfully. The aim is to let the wine flow naturally, so as not to damage it, while also having an economic objective: to use as little electricity as possible. Gravity-flow winemaking requires a fully adapted winery, from the reception of the harvest to its transfer to the tanks. Indeed, the grapes enter through the upper part of the cellar where the selection of the fruit begins. Then, the grapes are poured directly into the fermentation tanks, without the use of pumps. The pride of the estate. Located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, the Terre de Ghaya estate is a true family property, established in 2019. The vineyard, dating back to the 1900s, is situated in the commune of Bedoin, within the Ventoux AOC appellation. Chokri and his daughter Coralie passionately manage the estate and place great importance on sustainable development and environmental preservation. They built their own winery, an eco-friendly one. Its north-facing orientation helps regulate the cellar's temperature and provides natural air conditioning. The winemaking area is partially underground to allow for gravity-flow winemaking and to maintain the cellar's coolness. There is no air conditioning in the winery or the tasting room. Rainwater harvesting tanks have been buried in the ground to reuse rainwater for toilets and floor cleaning. They continued their commitment by converting to organic farming in 2021. The terroir is composed mainly of clay-limestone soils with a high organic content, but also includes sandy and stony soils. The vineyard boasts a diverse terroir that brings complexity to the wines they produce. The grape varieties are varied; they cultivate the following white grapes: Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache, and Clairette. And the following red grapes: Marselan, Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache, Carignan, Merlot, and Caladoc.
