Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2023

Morgon | Rouge | 2023

Planted on granite and sand, this Morgon from century-old vines is vinified with whole clusters without crushing, using indigenous yeasts. Aged for 6 to 8 months on fine lees in old Burgundian barrels, it develops a silky texture and excellent tension. A structured Gamay, typical of the cru, combining ripe fruit, saline minerality, and natural elegance.

Our Review of the Cuvée

It displays an intense ruby hue. The nose opens with aromas of ripe red fruits, black cherry, and redcurrant, complemented by a floral touch and a subtle smoky note. On the palate, the wine is juicy, with a full-bodied and velvety texture, supported by lively acidity and supple tannins. The balance between freshness, fruity depth, and mineral tension results in a vibrant and elegant wine with a long, savory finish. A superb terroir-driven Gamay, characterized by precision and natural expression.

Jean Paul - Charly Thevenet

Beaujolais | France

Domaine Jean-Paul et Charly Thévenet is a Beaujolais wine estate located in Villié-Morgon in the northern part of the region, renowned as a key player in the natural wine revival within the Morgon cru. Founded by Jean-Paul Thévenet, one of the pioneers of the natural wine movement since the 1980s, the estate is now managed with his son Charly, who brings new energy while upholding the original philosophy.

The estate primarily cultivates Gamay on granitic soils typical of Morgon, often from old vines, and practices organic or biodynamic viticulture with limited cellar interventions. Fermentations are natural, often involving carbonic maceration, and the wines are neither fined nor filtered, with minimal sulfite addition if necessary.

The estate's cuvées, particularly their Morgon "Vieilles Vignes" or "Tradition," are renowned for their pure expression.
