Pinot noir Berger 2023

Alsace | Rouge | 2023

This single-vineyard cuvée, Le Berger, comes from the south-east-facing marl-limestone terroir of Schaefferstein. Organic cultivation, hand-harvested grapes, gentle pressing, and fermentation with native yeasts. Aging on fine lees in large oak casks or long tanks ensures elegance, finesse, and a silky texture. A light, balanced, and expressive red wine that accurately reflects its terroir.

Our Review of the Cuvée

The nose is delicate and lively, with notes of both candied and tart cherry, fresh raspberry, and a subtle hint of cocoa powder. On the palate, the attack is smooth, with an airy, silky texture. The tart acidity supports clean, pure fruit, while the finish offers a lovely, lingering spiciness and a hint of minerality. A dry, easy-drinking, and charming Pinot Noir, best enjoyed with poultry, a lightly spiced dish, or mushrooms.

In Alsace, Domaine Neumeyer is located around Molsheim, as well as in the neighboring communes of Mutzig and Avolsheim. The vineyard is managed according to organic farming principles, with particular attention paid to soil balance and plot-specific expression.

Vineyard management relies on measured practices: natural grassing, shallow soil cultivation, manual harvesting with sorting, and controlled yields. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve the precise balance and aromatic potential of each plot.

In the cellar, winemaking prioritizes minimal intervention. Pressing is gentle, fermentations are conducted with indigenous yeasts, and aging is extended on lees to promote the wines' natural stability and complexity. This approach aims to support the raw material without altering its expression.
