Gérard Boulay Estate

The Cursed Mountains 2024

Sancerre | White | 2024

Located in the heart of Chavignol, the estate spans a variety of soil types, ranging from the Kimmeridgian marl of the “terres blanches” to the limestone pebbles of the “caillottes.” This geological complexity is reflected in every bottle, lending it a unique depth. Gérard Boulay prioritizes sustainable viticulture, promoting biodiversity and manual labor to maximize the expression of the terroir in his wines. The artisanal winemaking process respects the musts to preserve the full richness of the aromas.

Our take on this vintage

Upon tasting these wines, one is immediately struck by their aromatic precision, where mineral notes delicately intertwine with floral and fruity nuances. On the palate, the texture is both refined and generous, offering a vibrant tasting experience. The Sauvignon, enhanced by the terroir, reveals a fascinating balance between lively freshness and complex depth. As for the Pinot Noir, it displays an elegant and silky structure, enhanced by a lingering and seductive finish, inspired by meticulous craftsmanship.

Boulay’s signature is evident in the precision of the Sauvignon grown on the white soils and gravelly terraces of Chavignol. The wines display ripe yet restrained fruit, a streamlined structure, and that salinity found in the greatest Sancerres. Aging in demi-muids, which is very well integrated, lends a silky texture without altering the aromatic profile. The single-vineyard cuvées—Monts Damnés, La Grande Côte—each express a nuance of slope and exposure. One of the village’s most consistent and elegant estates.
