The vines for this Tannat wine thrive on hillsides with rich soils—a blend of clay, silt, and gravel—and benefit from a southeast-facing exposure. The winemaking process combines harvesting at peak ripeness, cold pre-fermentation maceration, and controlled fermentation. Aging for 15 to 18 months in concrete tanks softens the tannins while enhancing the fruity aromas. The result is a velvety texture with a refined structure, reflecting meticulous work at every stage of production.

Our take on this vintage

At first glance, a deep purple color is revealed. The nose is an explosion of candied raspberry mingled with notes of black cherry and toasted vanilla. On the palate, the experience is round and enveloping, marked by finely integrated tannins. Aromas of black fruit and toasted oak unfold harmoniously. The particularly full-bodied finish reveals blackcurrant and hints of toast and caramel. An opulent wine that pairs beautifully with dishes from the Southwest and Asian flavors.

Pouey Castle

Southwest | France

Located in southwestern France, Château du Pouey is a family-owned estate situated on south- and southeast-facing slopes overlooking the Pyrenees. The vineyard now covers approximately 22 hectares, having started out on a much smaller plot.

The estate played a pioneering role in introducing grape varieties such as Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng to the region. The vineyards are managed using sustainable viticulture practices, with particular attention paid to preserving natural balances and ensuring consistent ripening. The soils, composed of clay and gravel, provide conditions conducive to varied expressions, depending on the plots and exposures.

The wines are crafted with a focus on richness and indulgence, without seeking standardization. The winemaking and aging processes are designed to preserve the fruit’s expression and the varietal character of the grapes, offering profiles that ... Read more
