Terra Casta 2021

Saint-Chinian | Rouge | 2021

Château Castigno has successfully harnessed the clay-limestone terroir of the Assignan region, within the Saint-Chinian AOP, with vines over 70 years old cultivated using organic farming methods. Now led by Clément Mengus, this blend of Carignan and Syrah is vinified using whole clusters, resulting in a wine with a velvety texture and generous body. A remarkable cellar, shaped like a horizontal bottle, enhances the experience with tours and tastings.

Our Review of the Cuvée

Upon opening Terra Casta, one is captivated by its deep, brilliant garnet color. On the nose, it reveals itself gently, unveiling smoky and candied fruit aromas. On the palate, the wine is a true invitation to pleasure: a round, full-bodied texture accompanies a luscious explosion of ripe fruit. The finish is a blend of lively freshness and spices that lingers on the palate, adding a captivating dimension to the whole. Terra Casta offers a harmonious contrast between its fruity and spicy notes, a true delight for the senses.

Château Castigno

Château Castigno

Languedoc | France

Located in the town of Assignan, in the heart of the Saint-Chinian appellation, Château Castigno is set in a pristine environment at the gateway to the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park. The vineyard covers approximately 32 hectares, situated on hillsides reaching an altitude of around 250 meters, amidst a landscape of garrigue, red soils, and limestone formations typical of the region.

The vines, most of which are over 50 years old, are cultivated using organic farming methods. The vineyard management focuses on naturally low yields, careful attention to the soil, and hand-harvesting, in order to preserve the freshness and gradual ripening of the grapes. The grape varieties are intentionally diverse, blending historic Mediterranean varieties from the Languedoc with lesser-known varieties, offering a nuanced expression of the Saint-Chinian terroir.

The winemaking process relies on modern equipment designed to operate with precision without smoothing out the wine’s character: stainless steel tanks, oak barrels, truncated cone-shaped tanks, and ... Read more
