Everything You Need to Know About Certified Wines

This collection showcases winemakers committed to practices that respect the environment, living organisms, and consumers. Whether organic, biodynamic, in transition, vegan, or produced using sustainable agriculture, behind every certification lies a set of concrete practices in both the vineyard and the winery, as well as a shared commitment to producing more responsible wines without sacrificing enjoyment.

These wines reflect a different approach to viticulture, one that is more attentive to the soil, ecosystems, and the natural expression of the terroir.

Why choose a certified wine?

When you choose a certified wine, you are choosing:

  • Winegrowing that is more environmentally friendly and promotes biodiversity.
  • Practices governed by specific guidelines.
  • Greater transparency regarding production methods.
  • Wines that are often more expressive, faithfully reflecting their terroir.

These labels make it easy to identify wines produced with a commitment to sustainability, while allowing winemakers considerable freedom in terms of style and interpretation.

The various certifications and procedures

The collection includes several types of certifications and winemaking practices:

Organic Wine Organic wines are made from grapes grown without synthetic chemicals. In the winery, interventions are kept to a minimum to preserve the grapes’ natural character.

Biodynamics
Biodynamics goes beyond organic farming by viewing the vineyard as a living ecosystem. These practices rely on natural preparations and adherence to lunar cycles to enhance the vitality of the soil and the vines.

Organic Conversion
These wines come from vineyards that are in the process of transitioning to organic farming. A conversion period is required before official certification is granted, but the practices are already in line with organic standards.

Natural Winemaking Method
Natural wines are produced with minimal intervention: using native yeasts, little or no added sulfites, and no oenological adjustments. The result is lively, free-spirited, and often surprising wines.

High Environmental Value (HEV)
The HEV certification recognizes estates that are committed to protecting biodiversity, managing water resources, and reducing inputs, without being exclusively organic.

Sustainable agriculture
This approach aims to minimize environmental impact while adapting to the vineyard’s specific conditions. Treatments are used only when necessary.

Terra Vitis
As a certification specifically for sustainable viticulture, Terra Vitis guarantees full traceability and responsible practices, from vine to bottle.

Vegan Wine Vegan wines are made without any animal-derived products, particularly during fining, ensuring that the wine is compatible with a 100% plant-based diet.

A variety of styles, one philosophy

Contrary to popular belief, certified wines do not all follow a single style. Environmental commitment does not standardize taste; on the contrary, it highlights the diversity of terroirs and the individual approaches of each winemaker.

Tasting Tip

Wines produced using natural or low-intervention methods can evolve quickly after opening. Feel free to let them breathe or taste them over the course of several hours to fully appreciate their complexity.

Our selection of certified wines

At Les Grappes, we select certified wines based on the integrity of their production methods and the quality of their vintages. Whether organic, biodynamic, natural, or sustainably farmed, each wine reflects a concrete commitment and expertise that respects the natural world.
